MIST Tournament Weekend: March 2nd & 3rd,2023

IMPORTANT COMPETITION INFORMATION:

• Debate preliminary rounds will be held in an online format prior to the MIST tournament weekend. Dates TBA.

• Chess, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros, and Fortnite will be held in an online format prior to the MIST tournament weekend. Dates TBA.

• Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball will happen IN-PERSON prior to the MIST tournament weekend. Dates: February 17th for E-Sports, February 18th for Sports

This year's Knowledge Test books (by level):

• Test 1: The Question of Palestine by Edward Said (Only the first 150 pages will be testable for regionals).

• Test 2: Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis

• Test 3: My Father Was a Freedom Fighter: Gaza’s Untold Story by Ramzy Baroud

• Test 4: Justice for Some by Noura Erakat

• MIST Bowl - Topic 1: Tracing Palestine

• MIST Bowl - Topic 2: Racial Disparities and Injustice

• MIST Bowl - Topic 3: The Firsts | The Forerunners

• MIST Bowl - Topic 4: Muslim Youth in Western Tides

• MIST Bowl - Topic 5: The Steady Rise of Islamophobia

• MIST Bowl - Topic 6: Current Events

This year’s Debate Topics:

• It is more effective to be engaged in local politics than federal politics.

• The government should incentivize companies to adopt remote work where possible.

• The rise of AI communication tools with negatively affect overall human interaction.

• International sporting competitions (Olympics, World Cup, etc.) offer more benefits than harms for host cities.

• The United States should no longer be called a democracy.
